Freedom
It’s amazing what you take for granted as time goes by. I remember back in high school, just around the time I had received my drivers license, on a few different occasions I was out and about during normal school hours. It wasn’t anything mischievous, one time I think I was going to a doctors appointment, and the other going to a play put on for the school one-act completion. In both cases, I was struck by the fact that I was out and driving around, and how strange it felt to have that kind of freedom and control of what I did with my day.
Fast forward 8 years or so, and now I’ve had that freedom every day for the last 5 years. I don’t really think about it any more, but every time I’m working for a company, I start to realize my lack of freedom. It’s like I’m always supposed to be be “in class” (at work) all day again, and I feel guilty when I go out to take care of errands. I guess that speaks to what type of job I need to have, one that gives me freedom to work on my schedule.
Note: None of the jobs I’ve had have been inflexible, they are totally ok with me going out to take care of my own business, I just still feel guilty doing so a lot of the time

Dude, no company should accommodate YOUR schedule. Normal people don’t want to be at work till 10 pm.

I’m going to have to disagree with shoe on this one…they should work to YOUR schedule, because they want you to do your best work and be the most efficient for the sake of their profit. Fortunately for me I have a very flexible manager, who understands how life works…I do not feel guilty doing my errands because as long as I get done what is asked of me (and perhaps a little above and beyond), I can live the way I want (even if that means trippin’ on shrooms with spider monkeys)…What good would it be for any retail/personal service to be open from 9-5 on Monday through Friday if no one could ever use them? How can you go to the dentist if he’s only open when you’re at work? I want to have healthy teeth, which in turn allows me to eat, which allows me to live longer, which allows my company to get more out of me, which is profit to them, so they should encourage me to be healthy and get my teeth checked. So I am with you on this one Morlok, but I think you’ve earned the right to do what you have to do just so long as you are a contributing member the company…it’s a respect issue. You’ve earned their respect and trust that you’ll get done what you say you will get done, so you run your errands and trip on shrooms with “the monkeys” when it’s appropriate and convenient.

P.S. morlok…you gave me your damn cold…that’s the last time i share my shrooms with you or the damn spider monkeys.

Oh, I agree you should do your errands, but seriously - don’t work till 10pm. That’s something that a person who likes shrooms and spider monkeys wouldn’t even do.

P.S. morlok . . . you gave me your cold too. I will continue to share the shrooms, but the cold is not cool. I supposed I could have gotten it from schader as well considering he’s been sick for like 3 weeks, but still - I think it’s from you

Finally checked the comments on the blog. Yeah, everyone who gets this cold has trouble getting rid of it. My Dad had it too, and it took him a long time to get past the coughing and everything.
