Chicago: There and back

I took a day trip to Chicago for a meeting.  That’s not really all that impressive, as it was only about a 3 hour drive.  What’s realy impressive is Mike and my father did the same thing.  Coming from the Twin Cities, they left at 6 a.m. this morning.  Got to the meeting about a half hour early (12:30 p.m.) and then later that evening drove back.  It was about 750 mile round trip.  They haven’t actually gotten back  yet (should get in around 2 this morning).  Hopefully their trip will be safe.

The day excursion only marks the beginning of a crazy set of travels for my father.  After he gets home tonight (Friday 2 a.m.) he’s leaving for Iowa later in the afternoon to visit my Uncle and Grandmother.  After that weekend trip, we’re all meeting out in South Bend Indiana to see my sister and watch a Notre Dame football game.  That should be another 1200 mile trip for my parents.  I know there are a lot of people who travel more than my dad, I just think he just does a ridiculous amount in the car.

I’m guessing they didn’t take 94 into chicago (coming straight to there I guess you take 90 to something right?). Anyway, it took us 3 hours to get to Chicago from Milwaukee last saturday – a 1.5 hour trip usually because of the nightmare that is their tollway construction projects. Hey, here’s an idea – lets take the only three major freeways coming that direction over there and have them all merge down to 1 lane in 2 stages . . . “oh yeah, good idea, let’s go with that”

Yeah, tell me about it. Thankfully this trip I didn’t have to deal with too much construction (or traffic). On the way in I took Illinois 47, so I avoided interstate pretty much entirely. The way back I was fortunate enough to avoid major problems.
