Twins lost again today, so things aren’t looking so great for moving on in the playoffs. What’s been surprising is that the Twins have been making defensive mistakes, which is really not like them. The could also use some more offense. We’ll see if they can do anything in Oakland this coming Friday.
Was fortunate enough to acquire a ticket so I saw the game in person today. It was cool to be in the Dome when it was full; the sixth inning was fun, but not much else for Twins fans. A few comments on the playoffs so far:
- Joe Morgan continues his run as spewer of most contradictory nonsense by a commentator. In the first inning of Game 1, Castillo draws a leadoff walk and Morgan says, quote: “The Twins do a lot of things. The Twins, you know, they’ll hit and run, they’ll bunt, they’ll steal a base. They do a lot of different things to manufacture runs.”
Castillo was thrown out stealing and Morgan spent the rest of the game berating him for running in that situation. . He also criticized Santana for leaving a changeup up in the zone on the home run, then said how well in was pitching in the next couple innings, when he struck hitters out on…high changeups.
- Best quote, on Reggie Jackson and insurance runs: “If someone told me we needed an insurance run, I would hit the ball to the insurance building.”
- The Padres’ ball girl looked pretty good. The Yankees’ middle relief did not.
Yeah, I got to go to a Twins playoff game a few years ago. It was great (except they lost that one too). It was so loud in there I had to wear ear plugs. Didn’t like that aspect, loud noise bothers me, I ended up with a headache.
I have a response to that last statement regarding the ball girl, but I’m going to hold off in the name of decency.
