I haven’t posted in forever, but in case you missed it, Katy and I have a pet pig named Hamlet.

Let’s hit all the questions we normally get:

Why?!?
Because we wanted a pet that was litter box trainable and I’m allergic to cats. We don’t want to feel like we have to be home right after work to let a dog out. Also I don’t want something that I feel that I would have to walk (I’m lazy).

How big will he get?
He’s a “teacup” pig, now 50 lbs full grown (he is a year and three months old). He’s about the size of a spaniel, but huskier. When we got him (1 month old) he was 3 lbs.

What does he eat?
Anything he can find. He gets special mini-pig food daily and fruits and vegetables as treats.

Are you crazy?
Probably.

Can I eat your pig?
No.

Have you given up pork since getting him?
No. We don’t feed him any meat, of course, but we still eat pork/bacon/ham. We even keep his daily food in a recycled, frozen pulled pork container just to be ironic.

That’s about it. Katy has started a YouTube channel to document all of Hamlet’s crazy exploits. One of her recent videos is below.

Engadget has a nice piece on some Georgia Tech students who built a digitally assisted pool table using a webcam, an LCD projector, and computer vision techniques. Cool idea. Would have been even cooler if they would have implemented some sort of vision based UI system where you could ask the program to compute a shot for you (targetting how to get a certain ball in the pocket or something). Regardless, good job guys!

This video takes me back to when I was a kid. If you don’t watch the video, it shows a magic trick in which you appear to bend a fork but actually don’t. I had video that taught me magic tricks as a kid and I showed this particular trick to my next door neighbor Andrew. Problem was, I didn’t show him the final part fast enough (where the fork isn’t actually bent). Being the competitive kids we were, he quickly grabbed his own spoon and bent it for real. I think my mom still has that spoon that we partially were able to bend back to the right shape.
